The daily tour in Tarquinia, Tuscania and Vulci will introduce you to the ancient southern Etruria, where the Etruscans, in the distant past, founded some of the most important city-states of the twelve.
The tour starts from Tuscania, an ancient city founded according to the myth by Ascanio, son of Aeneas, and later inhabited by the Etruscans, where you will visit the Necropolis of Our Lady of the Olive and the city itself. After Tuscania, Tarquinia is one of the oldest and most important Etruscan settlements that played a major role as the main port in southern Etruria. Tarquinia was on war with Rome several times and this was finally subdued at the beginning of the third century BC.
The tour organised by our company includes a visit of the Necropolis with the extraordinary series of painted tombs considered “the first chapter in the history of Italian painting.” Decoration with frescoes on the tombs of aristocratic families is documented in other centers of Etruria, but only in Tarquinia the phenomenon features such extraordinary dimensions. The National Archaeological Museum houses the famous pair of winged horses.
